Just got back from a scouting trip in Mississippi. Saw one really interesting small town, Vicksburg. It is on the Mississippi and Yazoo Rivers and was the site of one the most decisive battles of the Civil War. After a long decline the town now appears headed for a decisive economic turnaround.
I hear Natchez, Oxford, and Tupelo are great too. For a certain kind of person Jackson, the capital, might be very appealing. It has some traditional neighborhoods and great hospitals. Nearby suburbs like Madison are siphoning off growth but have very nice facilities. Like everywhere in Mississippi, costs are low, weather is warm, and the tax environment is very welcoming to retirees.
If you have thoughts about retiring in Mississippi, please post here! |

| We are about to also go on a touring of Mississippi to see if we might like to live there at least part time. Would really like to hear from anyone who has decided to retire here. Looking for specific towns and what you like and don't like now that you are a resident. On paper Southaven looks very appealing, will be checking it out among many of the previous post listed |
