about seniors over 75 moving back north from the south. Seems like the first time since the depression there is a net outflow of that demographic. To me it is a startling statistic. I understand why older people would want to return to be near friends and family, but you would think there would still be more people moving south than headed the other way.
I think the "half-back" movement to the Carolinas is a combination of Florida's weather (pretty dull, very hot summers and no season change) and mostly, disenchantment with the crowds/traffic and sterility of many retirement places in Florida. Not that there aren't some great communities for retirement there, but the Carolinas have more interesting terrain and mix of people. At least in some people's minds.
