I heard some talk lately that some people don't really believe many retirees are interested in actually moving to Athens - that is all hype by the Chamber of Commerce. That's not what i see, but i would love to hear from someone else on the subject.

I can tell you Athens is one great place to live. The University of Georgia livens things up. Growth and the economy here have been solid. And geographically this is one of the most interesting parts of Georgia. Come on down and check it out!
You will find some relative relief in Athens from the weather. The average high temp in July in August there is about 90, it is 95.5 in July/August in Austin. Austin might be a tad dryer humidity, as it gets about 2" rainfall per July/Aug, Athens gets about 4". Both college towns, you will find Athens is smaller and more manageable.
