(This post was suggested by an anonymous member of Topretirements - we think it's a great question!)
Hi there...I am looking to find an active adult community that has a good % of unattached singles. It seems that the ones I have discovered so far are 90-95% couples. I am looking to relocate from a community with predominantly families and couples with few singles. Like the amenities of lifelong learning, enrichment and lots so social interaction available. Any suggestions? Perhaps it also would be helpful to designate which communities have more singles as an added feature. Thanks, M |

In the July/August 2005 issue of Where To Retire there is an article on this topic. They also suggest the following communities: Robson Ranch in Denton , Texas; Sun City Grand in Surprise, Arizona; Sun City Lincoln Hills in Lincoln, California; Pelican Preserve in Fort Myers, Florida and Sun City Center in Tampa, Florida. I have not visited any of these communities.
Of course location and cost of living are always a factor.
I did just visit Jubilee in Lacey, Washington which has about 20% singles so far, according to one of the residents. They are about 50% sold. If the newsletter is any indication they have several singles events.
If you are interested in towns that are recommended for singles the summer issue 2001 of Where to Retire has some listed. It may be a bit dated but things probably don't change dramatically.
If you find a community of interest, ask about demographics and if they have singles events.
I'm not sure I would post this topic only under Romance. Many singles are just looking for a place where they can more easily find activity partners. I believe there will be more and more single boomers for a variety of reasons and this topic is an important one. |

Thanks Mejask for the VERY helpful reply. This is just what we were looking for. You are right, there will be lots of singles looking for a compatible community and to help them we should post this in another section as well. I will repost in the Finding a Community section and try to consolidate the replies there.
Thanks for contributing, this is very helpful!
