|
|
Just discovered my disability will convert to regular ss retirement when I hit 66 - that's 5 more years. I'm going to call SS to find out how if the monthly amount will be the same or decreased. (They're already closed right now)
Does anyone know?
Also, are any states better than others in terms of very limited monthly budgets?
I do know about the HUD rural rental properties, but what about in general or do I just have to look up every various town in every various state on cost of living calculabors to find any answer. (Talk about labor intensive - it took me over 30 minutes just to look up a dozen places in Texas).
Any advice is very appreciated! |

not sure about the answer to your disability vs regular SSec payment. Let me know when you find out.
Regarding inexpensive places to live on a limited budget. If your income is mostly social security then income tax is not much a factor, which is good because it increases number of states you could consider. Certain states do not tax social security or pension incomes, you might want to consider those. Sales tax won't be a major consideration since your income is limited - you probably won't be spending a lot (but there are a few states that don't charge it). Therefore your biggest concern might be property tax. Unless you plan on renting, and then it won't be much of an issue, except indirectly.
So if you have limited income and won't own property, taxation really isn't a big concern for you. You should be looking towards states and towns with lower cost of living. In general, stay away from the coasts or places with very cold winters. Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Arkansas, Tennessee - those states will probably be your best bet.

| I would also suggest Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi, these three are the best of the all states! |
