My family lives in Massachusetts during most of the year.We have a summer home on Prince Edward Island. If you do not live on PEI year around your real estate taxes are about 50% more that if you DO live on PEI year around (ie. for a $200,000. home - may cost a year round resident only $2000. but to a part time resident it will cost $3000.) The cost of living, we found to be quite a bit higher than here in Massachusetts (Milk on PEI $6.53 per gallon, bread - $3.59 a loaf, gasoline $1.05 per litre, utilities are also quite a bit higher.
Another factor to keep in mind is that PEI is part of the socialized medicine world - my health insurance would only cover in an emergency - my monthly bloodtest for my blood thinners were not covered at all - I paid $88. each time I had it tested.
With that out of the way - WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE PEI - IF YOU LIKED THE WAY THE USA WAS 40 YEARS AGO - NICE PEOPLE, RELAXED ATMOSPHERE, PRIDE IN OWNERSHIP, ETC,ETC - THEN PEI IS THE PLACE TO GO - ihave never stayed up there in the winter but,
