I hear lots of good things said about retirement in Tennessee. From no income tax to a low cost of living, it appears that if we could sell our house and move to TN we would really increase our standard of living. But my question is, what's it like for a Yankee from the northeast to move down there. From what i hear about the Bible Belt and Red State - i am not sure i would fit in. Specifically, i wonder about different places like Johnson City area, Knoxville, Paris, Nashville.
thanks much

Just moved from New England to Tennessee for the very things you mention-no income tax and lower cost of living. The only thing we've had a problem with is school's close when there is a threat of snow-local schools were closed for two consecutive days in December because it "might" snow and the roads were bone dry. If this is our only problem. . . Don't miss the two feet of snow my brother-in-law has on the ground in New Hampshire. I've run in to more people moved here from somewhere else than born and raised here. I'll never pick up a southern accent at this rate! Laughing

you said it bamcote! Anyone who is worried about what it is like to live in Tennessee shouldn't - at least in the most populous areas. As bamcote says - your new neighbors and you probably came from the same place up north. Plus, people in Tennessee are friendly, so friendly in fact it takes some getting used to!
