What islands in the Caribbean does anyone think are possible places to retire? Some scare the heck out of me (Dominican Republic, Jamaica) while others might think they are great. I did visit Becquai, which looked perfect, but probably way to small.
Any suggestions welcomed. |

Hey... this is really an old thread, but maybe we can breathe some life into it. My wife and I have traveled to Belize and are going back again in a few months, not the mainland, but the island of Ambergris Caye. Absolutely a stunning area, safe, enviromentally conscientious (working on it) friendly, english speaking. This year we plan to seriously look into property and plan our next 8 years prior to retirement...
The country is very open to permanent residency and quite favorable in terms of taxes and standards of living. Check it out, you might be happy you did... of course you have to like beaches and warm, tropical sunny days! |

Thanks for the breath of life 6string. I think a lot of people are very interested in this topic. The recent stuff i have been hearing is that people are now considering Panama, in addition to the really popular Costa Rica.
In case you haven't heard, we are cross posting this invitation about Costa Rica:
Topretirements visitors are invited to the new joint Boomers in Costa Rica/Topretirements real estate tour of this fabulous country. There are 3 tours - this February, March and April. Each tour is 4 days/3 nights and led by none other than U.S. expatriate and Costa Rica expert Andrew Mastranodas. You'll stay in a charming B & B and each day see various real estate properties. Then you'll have a chance to meet U.S. citizens who have retired here, along with architects, builders, and real estate agents. Definitely a fun trip, and a great education for anyone considering retirement here. Here is the link for more info: http://www.topretirements.com/advertise/page_2.html
