I hear really good things about Madison as a retirement community. Lots of things to do with great cultural opportunities in a small town with plenty of charm. But how is the golf situation? I am not a sailor (which i hear is good there), so i don't want to move to a place where it is hard to find a place to play.

Golf is a little problematic, but not impossible, in Madison. The Madison Country Club is a private club. You must be a Madison resident to join, and the wait list is at least 5-6 years. But once you get in it is a perfect, low-cost club with a course in incredible condition.
Nearby Lyman has 2 public courses which has various "Member" options. One designed by Robert T Jones, the other by Gary Player. Up towards Middletown and inland there are many public courses. Clinton Country Club is also private with a waiting list (but you can play there on limited basis as an Associate member on the waiting list). New Haven has many courses, public and private.
Madison is a wonderful place to retire to. Its a small town with a committed community to keep that feel. Lots of condos with more coming. No active adult communities - so the condos have very few, if any, amenities. _________________ Site Gadfly - Enjoy the site - and post frequently!
