Sarasota could be the cultural capital of Florida. Blessed with the legacy of the early circus entrepreneurs, the downtown has a cultural center that would be the envy of any city twice its size.
It also has a big downtown with plenty of skyscrapers and traffic. Armand Circle and Longboat Key are about as upscale as you can get. Yet, not far from the downtown you can find lots of middle class neighborhoods with ranch houses that or nice. Further away from the water are tons of golfing and gated communities of every description. If you like big, and you like culture, this is a good place. |

A great mix, as Sarasota is upscale and festive near the water and rural and quiet inland. The area has been drawing vacation travelers for decades. A great place to live or vacation on the beaches of Siesta Key, Longboat Key and Lido key. Be sure to see list of sarasota fun, and once you move here...life is just a breeze! We love it. The city prides itself on its cultural offerings. There's the opera, symphony, film society, aquarium, classic-car museum and dozens of galleries -- an extraordinary amount of culture for such a small town. There's even a permanent circus, in the memory of the late Sarasotan John Ringling of Ringling Bros. fame. (The Ringling Museum of Art, part of Florida State University, is on his former estate.)
It is great Florida retirement without the old folks feel.
Best Regards, Stuart Cleveland |

Take a look at some sarasota photos, as seeing how people enjoy and use the area should be a big help to you. It really is a special community.
Hope that helps you.
Good luck. |

i have visited Sarasota twice -and had 2 completely different views of it. The first time we came in from the Interstate -all we saw were endless boring golf course communities and 1 big box store after another. The cultural part of the downtown was interesting looking but i didnt know where to go elsewhere- it looked pretty boring.
The second time i visited with a resident, and what a difference. Siesta Key and many other neighborhoods are beautiful. The downtown is vibrant with many different neighborhoods where you can live and walk around. lots of great restaurants and things to do. I loved it - the second time! |

I was okay with reading about Sarasota, but not when the Ringling Brothers were mentioned. We love animals, especially elephants.
You can figure out the rest. |
