By all reports that we can find most people are really happy about retiring to and living in Hendersonville. Seems to live up to the hype. But here was a comment from a visitor, and our response - feel free to chime in to the discussion!
"I plan a retirement move this coming spring with most interest thus far in Hot Springs Village, AR. After your article, I looked at Hendersonville and thought it merited a “look/see” trip – until I looked up the crime versus population rates.
Holy cow! I think I’ll pass. But I enjoyed your article just the same…."
and our response:
I am always amazed at the surprising crime rates in a lot of small towns, particularly in college towns and often in southern towns.
Don't know if who is doing the crime, or what exactly is going on. One thing to look at is the type of crime. Lots of murders, rapes, and assaults not so good. If it is property related (mostly in Hendersonville's case, with the exception of assaults), then high crime rates often happen in the most surprising places.
I spent some time looking through City-Data.com's discussion forums on Hendersonville and did not see much if any mention of crime. You might look there to get a better feel.
