The Mrs. and I are headed to Barcelona Spain this spring to visit our son in college. We only have a week and I'm sure there is a lot to see. Does anyone have any ideas on best places to visit - in and outside of Barcelona?

You won't go wrong in or around Barcelona. My advice would be just make a short trip - a day trip or overnight - and don't go too far. Barcelona is a great town for excitement and nightlife and just plain people watching. Don't wear yourself out traveling, unless you are there more than 7 nights.

One more thing. The Catalans are very proud of their unique cultural heritage. Go to youtube.com and search on sardana to see this very charming dance they do as an expression of unity on Sundays after mass in the Cathedral. Persecuted under Franco, they practice this to remember and celebrate. My video!
