Red Feather Lakes is a beautiful town about an hour northwest of Fort Collins. It offers Mountain biking, hiking, bird watching, fly fishing and has some nice atv trails too.

We don't currently live there year round, but from mid spring to early fall it could not be more beautiful. The spring is still wet with good chances of late snow storms leading out into some rain towards the end of May. The Aspen trees really start to blosom around this time too. They are plentiful in Red Feather and it make for a scenic summer and a golden fall when the leaves change

The housing market is growing but there are still some decent land and home prices depending on what type or size lot and home you are looking for. Both summer and year round homes exist up there.

There are 2 main communities around Red Feather - Glacier view (which typically has more year round homes) and Crystal Lakes where there is a mix of housing. Crystal lakes is where we own property. They even have an airport (well landing strip) for the more adventurous, but I have seen it used frequently each summer.

Crystal Lakes is a well run community and even though they have association dues you can actually see them at work since they operate a good size fire department for the area and maintain the roads throughout the year. In addition a portion of lots or homes offer seasonal water and sewer systems already.

The summer is fantastic - at least 10-20 degrees cooler than the weather in Fort Collins. There are the occaisonal hot days but it generally remains much cooler than Fort Collins or the front range.

The downside could be the altitude for some residents, though the topography is such that there are homes in all types of alltitudes. It tends to be dry, but a humidifier takes care of that pretty quickly.

But the positives list is massive. True outdoors with a lot of activities. Local restaurants and gas station. The area is camper friendly and people still wave when you drive past them. It offers every type of housing from budget (free or low cost camping) or buying just a lot to executive living in Fox Acres with a championship golf course.
