Whe choosing a retirement community, you need to think about choosing a Lifestyle. Do you want a home or condo? Gated or Non-gated? Planned activities or a way to find your own? Cold weather all the time or warm (some call it hot). Do you like the beach, fishing, arts, culture, boating, etc. Do you want to live in an all 55+ Community or do you want to live in a mixed community. What are do you need in your community, what would you like and what are your definite dislikes. All these things need to be considered in your your decision. When choosing an area you need to search out a good Realtor (Seniors Real Estate Specialist - specially trained to deal with seniors), one that truly knows the area they serve. When you visit, are they interested in showing you the area as well as showing you homes? Do they give you little side tours? It's great to be shown pictures but you need to touch, see and feel a place in which you choose to live (little drive-bys are always nice). When you vist an area, sit in a local coffe shop, go to the beach, talk with people in the community, the first day or two.
