Thanks to everyone at Topretirements for all the information! Although we aren't ready to retire for a few more years, it's never too early to start planning.

Are there any websites geared towards military retirees or military retirement communities?

Thanks for visiting Topretirements. I think you will be very glad you are planning now. Most people wait too long.

Great question - but i havent really seen anything oriented toward military retirement communities. I do know they exist, often in towns with a big military presence - like san antonio (there is 1 there on our site http://www.topretirements.com/reviews/Texas/San_Antonio/Air_Force_Villages.html ), pensacola, san diego, and parts of the south. If you use our search box for "military" you see we at least reference that word for about 20 towns. Lastly, if you search on Google for "military retirement communities" you will come up with some good stuff.

Happened to run across this one, a very nice community near Melbourne that is predominately military.http://www.topretirements.com/reviews/Florida/Melbourne/Indian_River_Colony_Club.html

Q: Both my wife and I are military
retirees. Are there any "military" related advantages in retiring in South Carolina? Thank You

A: To the best of my knowledge, SC does not have specific advantages for military retirees. But it is a tax-friendly place for retirement. See our SC Retirement Guide which has a link to a guide from the State.. Also this article about military retirements.

There are two distinct types of military retirees. They are those who have done their 20 and are generally 40-65 years
of age and then there are the truly retired over 65. I am in the second group and looking for a retirement location. All of which sets the stage for
my point/suggestion.

State taxes obviously play a roll in deciding where to retire. Our current thought is to retire on the east coast somewhere from Delaware to South
Carolina. Consequently I have computed the state taxes for each of the included states and none of my results match up with the various charts I have
been able to find. It would be a great service to the truly retired military if the states could be ranked by total tax burden for that segment of the
population. The question of the best economical relocation becomes evermore important as Congress continues to chip away at promised benefits.

By the way, The “Find a Community” feature is especially useful. Thank you.
