Q: My husband and I have been following your articles.
In April and May we drove to Florida checking out some areas, we have several
friends living in Leesburg. We found to parks for seniors 55 and over they really
were very nice. What entrigued us that we were able to purchase a lot there for
quite a reasonable price. One of the parks is Hawthorne Estates and the other one
is Continental Country Club Park. Both were gated communities with one of them
have around the clock EMT's for the people living there. We are very interested
due to we are not wanting to rent a lot. And we are wanting to hopefully buy a
brand new modular home.
My husband feels that there have to be more parks like the ones in Leesburg, Florida
and we have been searching on the web. The problem is how can we find parks
where they sell lots only, since we do not want to rent a lot. Do you have
anyway of helping us find those kind of parks. We want to retire in Florida all
year around, and be approximately 30 to 60 minutes from the beaches. Due to
living near a beach close by will kill us on insurance and some places not even
able to get homeowners insurance.

We also thought about S.Carolina, and we have followed up on your articles but
did not find much help there, especially when it came to parks where we can buy
a lot and when we were in S.Carolina no one was able to help us there.

I hope that you can guide us to places that meet our needs.

A:
hanks for taking the time to write with details of your adventures and interests. I think you are the right track in looking at Central Florida for this type of home. Keep looking there, I am sure you will find something that is affordable and meets your needs. We will keep those thoughts in mind as we look for communities to list on our site, as well as for future articles.

If you are not using them, our State Directories and Advanced Search might be useful for you in helping to find communities to look at.

Hello. Just an idea, but we have tried this in the past and it is very difficult to find a gated modular home community without fees in Florida. You can look to purchase property, as we did, but the price for a small lot size it $50,000.00 and up and it is not cleared or anything.

If you are interested in South Carolina, we have a piece of property for sale and it is cleared, 2.48 acres, has electricity on the property and city water available. You can put a modular home on it for very inexpensive and the property taxes will not kill you either. It is approximately 1-1.5 hrs from Myrtle Beach and is located in Bennettsville, SC. It will not work out for us to retire on, we paid $12,500.00 and are selling it for $5000.00, you pay closing costs and all other fees. This is a great deal and if you are interested, please let us know. If not, I wish you luck in your search in Florida.
