Auburn is ideally located just 25 minutes from world class shopping at the Roseville Galleria. Just up I-80 we are one hour from Lake Tahoe. And an additional 30 minutes to Reno for shopping, gaming, dining and live entertainment. The unique History of the Gold Country has a whole life unto itself with a culture that supports a heritage of local lore and traditions. |

Auburn does not a industrial base. The jobs here are primarily in the service sector. There are great churches and clubs and events that draws the community together unlike most other areas of the state. |

| What kinds of people like retiring here |
People who are attracted to the Auburn Foothills are just simply put "the salt of the earth". The 4th of July is celebrated each year in grand fashion like Mayberry with Aunt Bee. There are some real characters in them there hills. Music in the Mountians is a full spectrum of "classical music" including pops, jazz, big band and broadway music. |

The local services driven economy is transforming into an energy components supplier economy. Also medical suppliers and services are found in the region. There are two small craft regional airports in Auburn & Grass Valley that facilitate a vital industrial base. |

All top rated and highly acclaimed cardiac & respiratory care facilities. Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital and further north Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital are the local urgent care centers. Private Practice Physicians handle short term out patient care. |

The Local City Shuttle Bus is a great way to get around in both Auburn & Grass Valley, with regular scheduled routes to the world class shopping at Roseville Galleria. The State Capital Mall has light rail service that will take you from down town Sacramento to the Folsom Outlet Stores for a full day of shopping! Our regional medical centers also offer shuttle service. Amtrak service.

A: At Topretirements in our California Directory (See Find a Community above) we list 1 active adult community http://www.topretirements.com/active_adult_communities/California.html and 1 retirement home in Auburn, nothing in Granite Bay. The latter has many subdivisions such as Wedgewood and Los Lagos but they don't seem like active communities. If anyone knows any such communities, please let us know! |
