| What Guilford is like for active adults |
| Guilford is a very old town on the Connecticut coast of Long Island Sound, about 15 miles east of New Haven. It has one of the finest greens (squares) in New England - a huge expanse of lawn and trees surrounded by stores, churches, restaurants, and a brand new library expansion. Many people in Guilford commute into New Haven, Hartford, or Fairfield County; while others move here for their retirement. Along with nearby Madison, many folks from closer to New York elect to move here for their retirement. The wonderful community center, vibrant art scene, the coast and beaches, and quieter pace are some of the attractions. From the new train station in town one can be in New York City in just over 2 hours, making day trips there easy. Fishing and boating are excellent. There is a town owned par 3 golf course, with other public courses in Middletown and Hartford. |
