| What New Castle is like for active adults |
New Castle is a very old and historic town of about 5,000 at the head of the Delaware Bay, south of Wilmington. Founded by Peter Stuyvestant in 1651, the town was an important center in colonial days, in fact it was the capital for a period of time. That rich history and the dozens of historical buildings is what makes New Castle such an appealing place for retirees today. Of course Delaware's low tax structure doesn't hurt either.
There are active adult communities in or nearby New Castle (see link at top right). Average home prices in mid 2009 were in the low $160's, although Zillow put the value at $182,800 in late 2009. Photo of old New Castle courthouse courtesy of Library of Congress. |
