What Chiefland is like for active adults
Chiefland is a small town of 2300 in northern Florida between the Gulf and Gainesville. This part of Florida is not nearly as developed as the southern portions of the state - Chiefland is a small  town and somewhat rural. The town was FL Rural Community of the year in 2000.  Chiefland Golf & Country Club is in town.

There is at least one unusual active adult community in Chiefland, a community dedicated to astronomy (see link at top right).
Median home price in early 2011 was just under $100,000.

What is special about this retirement community
Prices are low and so is development pressure, at least until now.  Chiefland was the Florida Rural Community of the year in 2000. Manatee State Park is nearby. The skies are clear for viewing the stars.

Crime is high for such a small town.  There were 23 sex offenders in a town of 2300 in 2009 - a very high ratio. Chiefland is remote.

People who like the old Florida and want a small town experience might like Chiefland.  It is not for someone from the northeast looking for a lot to do.

Climate and Physical Environment
Chiefland is 30 miles west of Gainesville towards the Gulf of Mexico in northwest Florida.  Winters are mild (but not as warm as southern Florida) and summers hot.  The July average high is 93, the January avg. high is 69, and the average January low is 43. August is the wettest month with 10" of rain.

Restaurants & Cultural Scene
The downtown Chief Theatre on East park Avenue is home to the Suwannee Valley Players, a local group of thespians who put on plays for the enjoyment of local citizens. The group stages productions four to six times per year, usually for multiple showings
