What Deerfield Beach is like for active adults
As a retirement community Deerfield Beach represents an alternative to living in the big city or in a very affluent community. Named after the plentiful local deer that roamed through this area, it is a large community of over 70,000 residents. It is located just to the north of Fort Lauderdale and immediately below affluent Boca Raton. The city has had to wrestle with the issue of over development, which is such a big problem everywhere in Florida.

Retirees who live in Deerfield Beach find it is possible to live near the water – either the beach or the intercoastal. There are many apartment buildings that offer carefree living and varying degrees of amenities. Or you can choose to live in one of the many gated communities in the town or surrounding area. This diverse city is warm in the winter.

Deerfield has many retirement housing options. Real estate prices in the area tend to be lower than in nearby coastal communities. Average prices went into the low $200's in 2006-7, only to sink into the low $100's in 2008 (with very little volume).

Deerfield Beach is located in Broward County. For a list of profiles on over 180 cities and towns go to retirement communities
