| What Pompano Beach is like for active adults |
Pompano Beach, Florida, is a large retirement community with over 100,000 residents. It is named after the tasty fish local to these waters. CNN, Money Magazine, and the Wall Street Journal have touted this city, located just to the north of Fort Lauderdale, as one of the nation’s hottest vacation home markets. As a retirement community Pompano Beach does not offer the cachet or the charm of its more affluent neighbors such as Delray Beach or Boca Raton. The city has begun a plan to redevelop its neglected beachfront. The city could use a carefully thought out Master Plan and stricter zoning laws to help it stop the growth of sprawl, crime, poverty and strip clubs that are in the western parts of the city. Pompano Beach is located in Broward County.
This diverse retirement community has a very warm winter. The city’s many public beaches and parks provide a superb entertainment option for active adults. Hillsboro Lighthouse is a local landmark on the beach. The Goodyear Blimp is the city’s most famous winter resident.
Active adults 55+ who live in Pompano Beach find it is possible to live near the water – either the beach or the intercoastal. There are many apartment buildings that offer carefree living and varying degrees of amenities. Or you can choose to live in one of the many gated communities in the town or surrounding area; there is a rich array of choices for retirement living. Pompano Beach offers apartments near the ocean as well as single family homes. The median sales price of a home in mid 2008 was about $230,000.
