Mesquite : Nevada

What Mesquite is like for active adults
Mesquite is an extremely popular retirement town in southeastern Nevada, almost in Arizona and Utah. Mesquite was originally settled by Mormons as a farming community in the Virgin River Valley. Casinos arrived here in the 1970's. The town markets itself as a low key alternative to Las Vegas. The population increased 56% between 2000 and 2007 (to about 15,000). The median age is 39, a few years higher than the Nevada average.

There are many golf courses and retirement communities in or around Mesquite. The picture above is of the famous Wolf Creek Golf Course. According to City-Data, home prices averaged about $180,000 in late 2008, with many active adult communities to choose from. Those prices would be in line with Las Vegas properties (which have been severely affected) and a bit lower than Reno.
