| What Pinehurst Village is like for active adults |
Pinehurst Village is a popular golf retirement community in south central North Carolina, 75 miles east of Charlotte. This classic village is set in a serene and beautiful forest. The Pinehurst Resort is located within the village. In fact it is so sedate that you could drive by the entrance to the town and not realize that you were there.
The community was founded by James Walker Tufts in 1895 with the goal of being a healthful retreat. Famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted assisted in the design. Then the golf followed. The U.S.(golf) Open Tournament is held here periodically at the famed Pinehurst #2 course. Payne Stuart won here shortly before his tragic death – a statue on the course commemorates that exciting victory.
The village is self-contained with an elegant but small downtown. A number of small hotels and B & B’s offer luxurious accommodations. Homes are available in a variety of price ranges. Owning a lot in the village normally gives one the privilege of joining the Pinehurst Golf Club.
The village and the resort within it tend to be quite exclusive. Surrounding communities have sought to capture some of Pinehurst’s cachet with “piney-sounding” names. Many of these communities are exclusive; some offer a lower budget version.
Single family homes are the predominant form of housing. According to Yahoo Real Estate in early 2008 there were 357 homes for sale in the MLS with a median price of $369,000. There were 321 homes listed in the classifieds with a median price of $298,000. These prices and the number of homes on the market were very comparable with figures Topretirements saw in 2006.
Pinehurst is located in Moore County. (for more details see Pinehurst Resort). For a list of profiles on over 300 cities and towns go to retirement communities |
