| What Bandon is like for active adults |
This up and coming active adults 50 plus community offers a trifecta – world class golf, a perfect ocean setting, and small town charm. It’s Bandon, Oregon, located in the southern third of Oregon’s coast on the Coquille River. This growing town of just under 3,000 is often referred to as Bandon-by-the-Sea, and it is easy to see why. High cliffs go down to gigantic beaches pounded by the Pacific surf. Giant rock formations are laden with sea creatures that have to be seen to be believed. And all of this is a charming small town on the sea.
Bandon has always been a popular tourist destination. Its popularity has soared in recent years due to the presence of two of America’s finest golf courses – Bandon Dunes and Bandon Pacific. Both of these new courses are high above the Pacific with magnificent views of the ocean. The terrain is virtually identical with that of the western coast of Ireland, down to the gorse on the hillsides. The golf is similar to Irish courses like Tralee and Ballybunion. Well-heeled golfers travel the world to play here.
The town has other attractions as well. Fishing and nature (storm watching is big here) offer excellent distractions, as does the cute but small downtown. Bandon is located in Coos County.
Housing opportunities for active adults 55+ vary. Most of the homes on and near the water, or set back in newer developments. The vacation home industry is very strong here. Heritage Place is an Assisted Living and Alzheimer’s Care Facility in Bandon.
According to Yahoo Real Estate the MLS median asking price of 147 homes offered for sale in early 2007 was $379,500. There were 62 homes listed in real estate classifieds with a median price of $360,000.
