What Hood River is like for active adults
If you are looking for a retirement community and you are also an outdoors person, Hood River, Oregon might be the ideal place for your retirement. Located in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, this is also one of the premiere wind surfing spots in the world due to the high winds generated by the gorge and its 4,000-foot cliffs. The Lewis and Clark Trail, Multnomah Falls, and Mount Hood appeal to other outdoor adventurers. Other local attractions for active adults 55 plus include visiting orchards and vineyards. The population is just over 5,800, although over 20,000 people live in the area.

Hood River has much to like as a retirement community. Its economy is strong
thanks to tourism and the popularity of Oregon’s climate and atmosphere.
There is plenty to do and see. Tourism also provides jobs for retirees who are
interested.

Housing choices as you get away from the river often have stunning views. There do not appear to be many apartments or developments for active adults. According to City-Data the average selling price in 2007 was about $290,000.

Hood River is located in Hood River County. The city of Portland is about 60 miles away.
