About thirty minutes from Lisbon, Cascais is a small, bright, cosmopolitan city in Portugal nestled on the Atlantic coast. Swelling with tourists in the summer months, Cascais is populated by expats in addition to the Portugese all year round. Expensive by Portugese standards, expats find Cascais very affordable. Perfect for the active retiree, sailing, biking and golfing are all popular activities.

The median selling price of a home in Cascais is about $250,000. A nice two-bedroom runs between $260,000 to $450,000; the farther from the ocean you go, the less costly. 

What Is Special about Cascais

Caiscais is a peaceful but active city with all the modern amenities. There is a farmer's market twice a week; most residents prepare their food fresh from scratch. All the great European cities are at your doorstop: Madrid and Barcelona are within driving distance, and the south of France is just a day's drive away.

What Is Not Special about Cascais

Gas is pricey, about twice as much as it is the US. Unless you have an entrepreneurial spirit, it's nearly impossible to find employment with a Portugese company.

And an additional 30 minutes to Reno for shopping, gaming, dining and live entertainment. The unique History of the Gold Country has a whole life unto itself with a culture that supports a heritage of local lore and traditions.

Nearby medical facilities are modern, and include a well-respected British hospital in Lisbon.

Transportation

The highways are modern, and allow speeds up to 75 miles an hour. Public transportation is also very good.
