What Port Isabel is like for active adults
Port Isabel is a resort town of about 5,300 on a barrier island in extreme southern Texas, almost in Mexico. Corpus Cristi is 110 miles to the north. Surrounding towns include South Padre Island, Harlingen, and Laguna Vista. Port Isabel is a beach town and a popular resort, as well as being a retirement destination. FIshing, beach going, and relaxing are popular activities. The area is quiet and the weather is warm in the winter.

There are active adult communities in Port Isabel, or you can live in regular home near the beach, here, or in one of the surrounding towns.
Median home prices in 2011 ranged between $120,000 and  $190,000, but falling to about $105,000 (City-Data.com in early 2012.

Southern-most place in Texas, right on the beach.  It is a great tourist area and has a very warm year round climate for retirees.
