What Farmville is like for active adults
Farmville is a small town of about 7,000 people in south-central Virginia. It is home to Longwood College, a college offering master degrees with an enrollment of 3,500.  Hampden-Sydney College, 5 miles out of town, is the 10th oldest college in America, an all-male private school founded in 1776. Crime is extremely low in Farmville. The historic downtown has just been upgraded with the addition of brick sidewalks and trees along Main Street,

There is at least one active adult community in Farmville (see link at top right). Home prices were about  $200,000 in 2008 (prices are probably lower in 2010).

What is special about this retirement community
Work has been done to restore the historic downtown. Farmers markets are held there twice each week.  The Manor Resort Spa is a new addition to the town. Being home to 2 colleges is a plus. Crime is low. Farmville attracts upscale furniture shoppers to the 12 warehouses of the Green Front Furniture Company.

Farmville is located near the geographic center of Virginia.  The average July high temperature is 89 and the average January low is 24. The wettest month is March (4").

Cultural environment
The Heart of Virginia Festival happens in Farmville the first weekend in May. First  Fridays features concerts and bands. Longwood College and Hampden-Syndney College offer cultural programs.
