What Mission Royale is like
Mission Royale is Meritage Corporations 835-acre active adult community. The Greg Nash designed Mission Royale golf course is a central part of the community. Located in Casa Grande, Arizona. Centrally located, the recreation center features an exercise room, tennis courts, pickleball court, a billiards room, card and craft rooms, as well as a ballroom, two swimming pools, and a spa. There are many clubs and activities open to residents. From the high $100's to mid $200's.

Not for golfers
Mission Royale overall is a great community with wonderful people. The clubhouse is small and pickleball players need more courts but the major problem for golfers is the golf course ownership. Meritage sold the course 3 years ago and the new ownership does not care about Mission residents. She will sell unlimited golf packages for 6 months or a year but hope she never sees you again. She aggressively courts the area RV parks to take the prime (8-11 AM) t-times as a group because once she has the passholder\'s cash she would prefer you play no more than once a week. Outside groups also get preferred rates that are lower than our men\'s and women\'s golf associations. Pro shop and outside service personnel try their best but cannot make up for ownership. Her restaurant is fine if you like stale bread, indifferent service and tablecloths that are changed weekly whether needed or not. In a nutshell, golfers STAY AWAY!!

You get what you pay for....
If you have the money, Robson Ranch is the place to be. We actually live in Mission Royale.... Our community is owned by a multi-billion dollar publically traded Corporation intent on making money for their multi-millionaire board of directors and shareholders. This business model, as mentioned by previous reviewer, leaves much to be desired. Robson communities are still owned by Mr. Robson. He has a vested and demonstrated interest in making certain that his housing developments meet the needs of HIS community members - not the shareholders and BOD seeking to line their own pockets. Robson presently charges double - $180/month vs. $90/month at Meritage - for what you could compare a solid 4 star (Robson) vs. a 2 star (Meritage). The biggest single difference is that Robson affords much larger community center and pickelball courts. Robson actally believes that pickelball is the way of the future for the +55 age group to the extent they are incrasing their courts to 26 from current 22 so they can host the USA national pickleball tourney for two consecutive years. Meanwhile at Mission Royale the commmunty has been told they will NEVER have more than SIX (6) pickelball courts and, as a result, is immediately tappering back their long tunning USAPA tourney - having been shunned from using the tennis courts to enhance the size of their tourney. Looking back - shoulda/woulda/coulda bought into Robson - much greater value will be reaized in the long run. Mr. Robson does +55 housing RIGHT....

Not for pickleball players
Meritage Homes is not listening to concerns from Mission Royale residents in regards to how undersized the club house and pickleball courts will be at build out. The HOA is still totally controlled by Meritage, and it will be until build out is reached. Having the developer control the HOA is NOT a desireable situation. The HOA BOD continues to turn it\'s back on the Pickleball club\'s continuing proactive efforts to work with them in regards to the desire(need) to have a medium term plan to expand the courts. This group would like to partner (as in pay for parts of the expansion through ongoing fund raising) with developer to build more courts. The HOA\'s BOD continues to totally ignore, be unresponsive, to these efforts. Forbes.com reports the founder and current CEO of Meritage Homes, Steven Hilton, raked in $7.25 million in salary in 2013. Obviously Mr. Hilton is in business to sell houses; not to meet the needs of those who want to make that house their home. Another MEGACORP Billionaire who has forgotten that us little people pay his salary? Robson Ranch, nearby in Eloy, recently increased their number of pickleball courts to 22; we have SIX. Robson also added a 25,000 sq.ft. addition to their already generously sized clubhouse. Palm Creek (an RV + Park Model prototype in Casa Grande) has 24 pickleball courts and many more clubhouse activities than Mission Royale. It is VERY disappointing to show up to peak period Pickleball league play and have to stand around with as many as 16 people waiting to play. Mission Royale could immediately support 12 courts; at build out double this number should be in place.
