Port Dover is  located on the north shore of Lake Erie in Norfolk County, Ontario, Canada, and is the fastest growing community in the county with approximately 6,000 full-time residents.  The population of this beach community more than doubles during the summer tourist season with the influx of boaters, campers, vacationers, and day-trippers.  Port Dover has been a popular summer destination for visitors from both the United States and Canada as it is close to major cities such as Hamilton, Toronto, and Buffalo, New York.  This small community  is considered both a resort town and a fishing town, as it is known for its fishing and commercial shipping industry along with sandy beaches, beautiful scenery, unique shops and many festivals. Due to the growing population, real estate values have appreciated inthe the last few years, with the average home price in mid 2013, to be approximately  $172,000.  Homes closer to the water are pricier.  Because it is a resort town, there are many homes and cottages that are rented during the summer tourist season.

Port Dover is a small town with beautiful beaches on Lake Erie, which makes it a popular fishing and boating community.  It is a very walkable community with eight blocks of shopping and dining on Main Street.  The community hosts many festivals throughout the year, including the Friday the 13th Motorcycle Rally which is attended by thousands of bikers on every Friday the 13th.


What is not special about Port Dover

Port Dover has a lot to offer during the spring, summer and autumn, but winters can be long and cold; If you are not a motorcycle fan you may want to get out of town every Friday the 13th; Port Dover is a tourist town during the summer months.

Retirees who enjoy the outdoors, especially boating and fishing would enjoy it here.  It is a very walkable community with unique shops and restaurants.

Port Dover is home to the Harbour Museum which is partially housed in an orginal fisherman's net shanty and gives visitors the chance to view schooners and shipwrecks;  The town host the Marine Heritage Festival; The Lighthouse Festival Theatre is for those looking to catch a play;  The biggest event for the town occurs every month that has a Friday the 13th. Port Dover prepares for and hosts thousands of bikers for the Friday the 13th motorcycle rally which was started in 1981 by a local bike shop owner.



Crime in Port Dover is about the same as the national average.
