What it's Like to Retire in Fruita

Fruita is a small town on the west central edge of Colorado. The Colorado National Monument towers over the town and the Colorado River borders it, as does the Uncompahgre Plateau. There is an active adult community in Fruita (see link at right).
The median price of a home in Fruita was a little over $225,000 in late 2014, according to  Zillow reports the number to be lower $209,600 in the 1st quarter of 2015.


What is special about Fruita

This area near Grand Junction is known for its outstanding outdoor recreation.  The Colorado National Monument is one of the country's greatest natural features. The Fruita Fall Festival is an annual harvest event that delights residents and visitors alike.

What is not special about Fruita

Fruita is a small town; Winters are cold and it does snow; it is not considered a very walkable community.

The average January temperature is about 25 degrees and the average July temperature is about 75 degrees.

The beauty of the area has drawn countless artists, sculptures and photographers to Fruita, and the city is scattered with public art sculptures and art galleries; each summer the town host a summer art camp for both children and adults;  there are also summer music concerts and arts and crafts fairs;  The Fat Tire Festival is a three day mountain biking celebration with music, races, and a beer garden;  Fruita is also known for its "Mike the Headless Chicken Festival".



Crime in Fruita is just under the national average.

Medical facilities

Community Hospital is about 10 miles away in Grand Junction.



Grand Junction Regional Airport is about 15 miles away.  The closet International airports are almost 300 miles away in either Salt Lake City or Denver. There is an Amtrak station in Grand Junction about 10 miles away.
