A former farming village on the Coginchaug River, Durham is a small town of less than 10,000. The lovely town center is a historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The west side is flanked by Metacomet Ridge, a mountainous traprock ridgeline.

Durham has some nice restaurants, but there's nothing overly exciting here.  That is, except for the annual Durham Fair held here every September.   The whole town pretty much closes down for rides, jam judging contests, tractor pulls, and all the good old county fair stuff.  For winter activities Powder Ridge is a ski slope just outside of town.



Crime in Durham is lower than the national average.

Medical facilities

Middlesex Hospital is about 6 miles away in Middletown.



Amtrak is 8 miles away in Wallingford. A regional airport, Tweed New Haven Regional Airport, is about 21 miles away.  Bradley International Airport is 35 miles away, in Hartford.
