What it's Like to Retire in Niantic

Niantic is a small town on the Long Island Sound coast of Connecticut. This former fishing village has about 6,000 residents and is in one of the nicest stretches of CT - between Old Saybrook and New London.  Boating and fishing are fantastic from here, and so is the New England charm. The nearby towns of Stonington, Lyme, and Mystic are also great retirement communities.

According to City-data.com, median home prices were about $225,000 in late 2014. Zillow.com lists the median sale price at $231,250 in mid-2015.  Obviously homes near the water are worth much more.

From Old Saybrook you can take Amtrak to NY or Boston, as well as the Shoreline East to New Haven.  There are some small airports nearby, but great service is available from either Hartford or Providence (less than 1 hour away).  I 95 is close by and also connects in Old Saybrook with the convenient Rte 9 (going north)
