What it's Like to Retire in Redding

Redding is an extremely affluent suburban community of about 8,000 people in eastern Connecticut.  The median Household income is over $120,000 and unemployment is about 5%.  The town is situated in a beautiful part of the state (see photo above of Huntingdon Park courtesy of Wikipedia and AskJoanne).  Mark Twain lived here late in life and gave many of his books to the town - today it is home to the Mark Twain Library (also pictured above).

There are retirement communities here and in surrounding towns.  The median price of a home was hovering a little above  $500,000 at the end of 2013 - the median has ranged considerably above and below that figure since 2007.

Redding is a beautiful place to live with attractions like Huntingdon Park and the Mark Twain Library.
 

What is not special about Redding

There is not much of a downtown. It is extremely expensive to live here, and most of the residents leave town to work in New York or suburban centers.
