Louisville is a mid-sized city of over 260,000 on the Ohio River.  It is the largest city in the State of Kentucky and justly proud to be the home of the Kentucky Derby. Louisville combines the cultures of the south and the midwest, so you know it is a friendly place. The downtown is a mixture of historical buildings and modern skyscrapers.  There are 22 parks in town and many cultural attractions and festivals. The more you read about Louisville the more interesting it becomes.  Wikipedia states that Louisville is one of the safest small cities in the U.S.

The cost of living is about 85 vs the national average of 100. Home prices have been remarkably stable in 2007-2008, with the median price being about $136,000 in late 2008. Retirees looking for a friendly and low cost place to retire are considering Louisville and the surrounding area.
