Princess Anne, Maryland is a quaint historic town with two nearby universities, the U of Maryland Eastern Shore and Salisbury University. Just 30 minutes to Ocean City and the pristine beaches of Assateague (with the wild horses). 3 hours from Baltimore, Washington DC, Philadelphia and Williamsburg. Two hours from Annapolis, Wilmington, Cape May and Virginia Beach. There are 300 structures on the National Register of Historic Places in Princess Anne. Much of the town's architectural heritage dates from its early days when it was an important river town in the mid 18th century.

The Teackle Mansion is a stunning example of the Federal Style. Architectural styles include authentic Colonial (two structures from 1750's), Federal, Greek Revival, Italianate, Victorian and American bungalow.

The crime rate is average in the historic town center, but high near the university in student housing, north of the town center.

People interested in history will love the historic district and the heritage of this old town. Just over half of the residents are African-American due to an historically black college nearby, so people of color will feel comfortable here. Cultural activities abound at the two local universities, and the museums of DC, Baltimore and Philadelphia are a three hour drive away; Salisbury Symphony has a regular season;  annual skipjack races and Olde Princess Anne Days;  art and wine festival are in the Fall; annual Christmas candlelight tour and parade.

Crime rate in Princess Anne is higher than the national average.

 

Medical facilities

Peninsula Regional Medical Center, a highly rated hospital is 10 miles away, with top Cancer and heart centers.

 

Transportation

Hourly bus service to Salisbury and Ocean City.

Low and slow  (laidback) traffic.
