What it's Like to Retire in Duxbury

Duxbury, a town of 15,000 in Plymouth County, is one of America's oldest towns.  The very affluent population is 15,000 and it is located on the coast about 35 miles south of Boston. One of its earliest setters was Captain Myles Standish. Early on the main industry was shipbuilding followed by fishing. The town has quite a number of historic homes and sites, such as two Captain Bradley's houses and the John Alden House. Snug Harbor provides a charming waterfront scene with many nice shops. Professional, Scientific, and Technical.  Many residents commute to Boston for work. The bay supports an active shellfishing industy.

January's average temperature is about 30 degrees with July averaging about 72 degrees.  Duxbury gets around 35 inches of snow during the winter months.


Restaurants & Cultural Scene

The Art Complex Museum offers a year-round schedule of exhibitions, lectures, concerts, classes, education programs, demonstrations;  The Old Shipbuilder's Historic District is a 287-acre includes over 140 buildingsbuildings deemed to contribute to the historic character of the area and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986; Duxbury Beach is known as one of the most beautiful in the state, and offers outdoor recreation. For the best cultural scene, Boston is nearby.





The crime rate in Duxbury is very low.

Beth Israel Deconess Hospital is in Plymouth, about 20 miles away.



Boston's airport is about 40 miles away.
