San Luis Potosi is the capital and the most populous city in the Mexican state of the same name, San Luis Potosi.  The city is commonly called San Luis and has a population of over 700,000 in the city proper, and over 1,000,000 in the metropolitan area, making it the tenth largest in the country.  San Luis was named after Louis IX of France, who is the city’s patron saint. Potosi was added to the name in reference to the silver and gold mines which were the reason the city was founded, in 1592. San Luis is a city with more than four hundred years of history and culture.

 San Luis Potosi sees about 300 sunny days a year, with an average January temperature of 55 degrees, and an average July temperature of 66 degrees.

 

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

San Luis is rich in history and culture.  There are many museums including Museo dela Masara which holds a collection of masks from all over the world.  Museo Cossio houses exhibits from local artists, and Museo Federico Silva is a sculpture museum.  Others include the Railroad Museum and The Contemporary Art Museum.  The most popular park in the city is Tangamanga. With 1200 acres, it is the second largest city park in Mexico. Traditional religious feasts, cultural and arts festivals include the Procession of Silence on Good Friday, the Festival of Light and the San Luis Potosi National Fair.

The crime rate of San Luis Potosi is high.

San Luis Potosi has several medical facilities including Hospital de Especialidades de la Salud and Hospital Lomas.
