Gladwin, is a small town in central Michigan, located along the Cedar River, with a population of just under 3,000.  It was founded in 1875 during the lumber boom and was named after Henry Gladwin, a British military commander at Detroit during Pontiac's War.  Gladwin is surrounded by lakes and forests and is a popular spot for both vacationers and retirees.

This small isolated town is at least 1 1/2 hours from the nearest large city (Flint or Traverse City).  If you're not an outdoors type person, you may not find much to do here.  Winters are cold with an average January temperature of just 20 degrees.
