What Boulder City is like for active adults

Boulder City was built by the government in 1931 to house workers for the Hoover Dam. The population in 2011 was 15,000. It is located about 30 miles from Las Vegas. Today the town appeals to a mix of residents including a thriving senior community. Great small town atmosphere, the city has a strict growth policy. There are lots of local shops, restaurants, parks and other attractions. The city has several festivals throughout the year, a private airport and two public golf courses. Tourism is the main driving force behind the economy. Most tourists visit the town due to Lake Mead and Hoover Dam. The city has an upscale downtown district designed for tourists with shops, restaurants and a movie theater that shows special productions.

Boulder City is in the southern tip of Nevada near Arizona and Utah. Average winter temperature is in the mid 40's with the average July temp about 90. This is a desert, relieved by the presence of Lake Mead.
