What Little Egg Harbor is like for active adults

Little Egg Harbor is a great retirement destination in southern New Jersey with a very confusing name. Little Egg Harbor is a township of about 15,000 people and growing very fast. It is just north of Atlantic City near Tuckerton and a bit south of Manahawkin. Little Egg City is a small town that is considered part of the Township. There are great beaches and bays for all types of water recreation. The area has some cute downtowns and it always has a pleasant resort ambience. About 17% of the population is over 65, indicating that it is a popular spot for retirees. There are many active adult and 55+ communities in Little Egg Harbor, including Sunrise Bay and Cranberry Creek.

In late 2009 Zillow reported the average home price was $216,900, much lower than the average for New Jersey. Obviously that can differ by neighborhood and proximity to the water.

Little Egg Harbor is a fast-growing but very pleasant area. Its proximity to the casinos, restaurants, and entertainment of Atlantic City is a plus. The beaches and harbors are great for beaching and fishing. It has a much lower-paced feel than the rest of New Jersey
