Hertford is a small town located in North Carolina's Inner Banks region.The population was 2,185 at the 2008 census.  Hertford is the county  seat of Perquiman county. Real Estate Values
 It is hard to be accurate about median home prices in a town like Hertford because the area combines high-end waterfront active adult communities with low-end housing by some of the lower income locals. City-Data reports the median home sale price in late 2014 to be about $125,000, although Zillow.com reports the median home listing price to be $195,900 in early 2015.  The median household income in the area is only $24,000.  High-end properties can be found in the local active adult community, Albemarle Plantation.

 

What is special about Hertford

Great fishing and a low cost of living in North Carolina. Just 50 miles from Norfolk and its airport.  the famous disc-jockey Wolfman Jack is buried in Hertford, Catfish Hunter is the town's most famous resident.
 

What is not special about Hertford

Unless you are an outdoors person there is not a whole lot going on in Hertford. The town is bipolar in terms of residents -many lower income residents vs. higher income newer residents.

Outdoors people - boaters, fishermen, golfers, and hunters will all like living in Hertford.

Hertford's Crime rate is a little above the national average.

Chowan Hospital is 12 miles away in Edonton, Elizabeth City has a hospital which is 19 miles

The nearest large airport is in Norfolk, about 65 miles away.
