Philadelphia is one of America's most historic cities as well as the largest city in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia is home to numerous colleges and universities including Penn and Villanova. It is also home to many neighborhoods and a vital, historic downtown surrounded by 2 major rivers. Living close to the University of Pennsylvania or just out of town in Villanova can provide an interesting retirement, and more and more people 55+ are choosing an urban retirement lifestyle in Philadelphia. Cost of living can be surprisingly affordable for a city of this size. The average home price in the Philadelphia/Camden Metro is $206,000 according to the National Association of Realtors, although that can differ tremendously based on neighborhood. | Living so close to the center of American history has to be a thrill. Birthplace of the Declaration of Independence and home of Benjamin Franklin make Philadelphia a special place. The urban lifestyle in Philadelphia, where owning a car is not necessary, is quite appealing. There are lots of great restaurants, museums, and shopping. |
