Kingston : Rhode island

What Kingston is like for active adults
Looking for a small town retirement community that is near some of the best, most uncrowded beaches in America? A charming New England town that has its own Amtrak stop? Or one that has a major university, the University of Rhode Island? Look no further, Kingston, Rhode Island, is all of that and a lot more for active adults 55+. The entire state of Rhode Island is surprisingly undiscovered. It has the most seacoast per capita of any state. It is convenient to New York and Boston, along with its own dynamic capital, Providence. Newport, just down the road from Kingston, is one of the top tourist destinations in the country. And yet hardly anyone lives here, so prices are reasonable and overcrowding not an issue. Kingston is just one of many towns in Rhode Island that deserve a good look as a potential retirement community choice for active adults. This town is an excellent choice for retirees who want to live in a small and interesting university town. Kingston, (population 5,000) is actually an unincorporated village in the town of South Kingston. The Kingston Village Historic District has 38 buildings listed due to its stock of handsome Federal, Greek Revival, and Late Victorian architecture. The University has 11,000 students, which bring considerable life and diversity to the town. Housing choices available to active adults include the restored historic homes in the central village. There are other nice homes close to town. There is at least one new luxury condominium development in the area. There are also assisted living facilities nearby. The Kingston downtown area is small but interesting. According to Yahoo Real Estate the MLS median asking price of 11 homes offered for sale in late 2006 was $499,000. There were 3 homes in the classified listings with a median price of $599,900. Kingston is the county seat of Washington County
