| What Buffalo is like for active adults |
5,000 people live in this comfortable, quaint community high in the mountains, oftentimes described as the Mayberry of the west. Buffalo is a classic, genuine Western town, 135 miles away from Yellowstone National Park. People are friendly, and welcoming. The atmosphere is conservative and its residents enjoy the outdoor life: fishing, snowboarding, and camping in the Big Horn mountains are all popular activities. There are no big chain stores, but the town is well equipped with a hardware store, a pharmacy, banks, restaurants, an internet cafe, and a little bit of everything; larger shopping can be done in Sheridan 30 miles away.

What people are saying about Buffalo | | Buffalo Wy |
| We had the pleasure of vacationing earlier this summer in the Big Horn Mountains and stopped briefly in Buffalo. Our general impression was that it was a pleasant small friendly community. You can get most of what you need at the local stores for daily living, but if you need anything special, you will likely have to shop out of town or on the internet. But the real plus here is that Buffalo hangs right on the edge of the Big Horn Mountains. In 15 minutes you can be up to 9700 feet into spectacular mountain scenery. Lots of great camping, snowmobiling, skiing, wildlife viewing (like stopping to wait for the moose to cross the road). If you are into the outdoors, it's a great spot. |
