This is the name of a PA town I never heard of. Can anyone who lives here give us a short report?

We\'ve lived (and LOVED) Kennett Square for almost 21 years.
Just want to say, there is not a hospital IN Kennett, but several excellent ones are within a few miles and Philadelphia is apx. 30 miles away with award winning medical facilities.
Also, Kennett has even more things to do than mentioned. We have a brewfest in October (with classic cars) and Christmas festivities that include horse drawn carriage rides. We have miles of walking trails that are constantly being added to with the township acquiring more open land space each year. During the summer months there are free concerts in the park and each 3rd Thursday of the summer months the main street through town is closed so it can be opened to pedestrian traffic and tables are set up for dining outside.
Kennett housing prices are higher than some other areas, but you get a lot for your money. Property taxes are high, but they contribute to an excellent school system.
Another plus is that we are a short drive from Delaware which has no sales tax shopping and Lancaster with its rich history and outlet shopping.
This is a beautiful part of the country and Kennett Square is working hard to preserve the lovely small town atmosphere while still providing all the amenities.

Thanks to Stclairrae for informative posting. My husband and I are retiring Dec. 31 and will move back East where we are both originally from (and both kids and grands are). DE, PA and VA are on our list for retirement and I have done a great deal of research. We drove through the Brandywine Valley in November and saw Kennet Square (loved it), West Chester etc. I know what our income taxes would be but am having a terrible time finding real estate taxes in Chester County. I am looking for a comprehensive number---school, municipal etc for a house around $600,000. Can you help with this? Many thanks

mimis, if you go to realtor.com website you can find the property taxes for almost any house. I moved from this area last year. Taxes there are usually 1.5% to 2% of the appraised value of the house. Next to Kennett Square is Unionville & Chadds Ford, which has such an excellent school district that is consistently rated in the top 5 of all the 450 school districts in Pennsylvania. There are other attractions nearby, such as the Winterthur estate and the Hagley Museum.
