Danville is a town of about 16,000 people in central Kentucky, about 30 minutes from Lexington. Some people are considering it for retirement because it is of manageable size, low cost, and convenient to Lexington. The architecture is very pretty according to some reports and the people are friendly to outsiders. There is a small downtown and a good library. The National Trust for Historic Preservation gave Danville the Great American Main Street Award for its charming downtown.
