What Oro Valley is like for active adults
Oro Valley is a rapidly growing region about 15 miles north of Tucson in southern Arizona. CNN/Money named Oro Valley #44 on its list of "Best 100 Places to Live and Launch". The 2009 population is over 40,000, median January temperature is 50, elevation is 2500'. The population is a bit older than Arizona in general, yet many younger families with children live here. The area has a vibrant economy with a combination of luxury resorts, retirement communities, and a strong biotech industry. Many folks live here only in winter.  In addition to the beautiful scenery and lively environment, the Oro Valley offers superb recreational facilities - from golf and tennis to mountain biking and hiking in the nearby mountains.

Real Estate Prices
Prices of homes have dropped since 2006. By late 2009 they had fallen to about $260,000.

What is special about this retirement community
One of CNN/Money's "100 Best Places to Live and Launch".  Its beautiful foothills lead to nearby mountains, fantastic access to the outdoors. Less crowded than Tucson or Phoenix. There are a number of luxury resort hotels in the Oro Valley. The Oro Valley Country Club is a frequent host of collegiate golf tournaments. Catalina State Park, very good schools.

For full time residents the searingsummers can be hard to take.

What kinds of people like retiring here
An interesting mix of people come to live in the Oro Valley. There are families with young children, retirees, and people who keep a second home here for the winter. In the active adult communities here the age tends to be higher, obviously.

Local economy is driven by
Oro Valley has a very diverse economic base. Biotech, luxury hotels, construction, and active adult communities are important to the Oro Valley economy.

Climate and Physical Environment
This community is located in the middle of the Canada del Oro Valley in the western foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains at the base of the Pusch Ridge. The Tortolita Mountains are north of the town.  It is fairly warm in winter and extremely hot in summer.

Cultural environment
The Greater Oro Valley Arts Council actively promotes the arts. The Oro Valley Festival of the Arts is held each April. celebrating all forms of art and artistic expression. Live musical performances are held in the open-air amphitheater at Cañada del Oro Riverfront Park. Oro Valley schools and library are highly regarded. Nearby Tucson is the home of the University of Arizona and a wealth of cultural institutions.
