| What Banning is like for active adults |
Banning is a town of 29,000 near the San Gorgonio Pass; north of San Diego and east of Los Angeles. Palm Springs and Riverside are nearby. It is named for Phineas Banning who was a stagecoach line operator and Father of the Port of Los Angeles. The area was first settled by the Cahuilla Indians and then as a Spanish mission. Banning has a sister town, Beaumont, which it shares many similarities. The area is quite dry and mountains are nearby.
Since Palm Springs is only 29 miles away, the area is filled with active adult and 55+ communities, with many more to come (see Banning Active Communities link at top right). Median prices here in Banning plummeted in 2008 and 2009 to about $100,000 by mid 2009 (City-Data). Zillow says the median selling price is closer to $124,000.
