| What Banning is like for active adults |
| Banning is a small town near the San Gorgonio Pass; north of San Diego and east of Los Angeles. Palm Springs and Riverside are nearby. It is named for Phineas Banning who was a stagecoach line operator and Father of the Port of Los Angeles. The area was first settled by the Cahuilla Indians and then as a Spanish mission. Banning has a sister town, Beaumont, which it shares many similarities. Since Palm Springs is only 29 miles away, the area is filled with retirement communities, with many more to come. The area is quite dry and mountains are nearby. Average homes in nearby Riverside had an asking price of $377,000 in 2007's 3rd quarter, but prices here in Banning averaged about $279,000 in 2005. |
